Some
terms used in the trade...
Folding
Incorporating out of the ordinary folds into a print job can add
an extra dimension. Get the paper working for you by folding your
job in an unusual manner, in conjunction with a striking design.
Binding
How you hold your job together is up to you - staples, thread sewn,
glued, wirebound - it all depends on the project.
Finishing
Print finishing is a large part of the industry. How a job is folded
and bound is part of finishing. In addition, laminations and spot
varnishes can be applied for extra effect, and die-cuts can be used
to add shapes or generate curiosity. The list includes techniques
such as blind embossing, foil blocking, thermography, etc.
Stock
Stock is basically the paper or card you are printing on. The list
is endless. Cost can be a factor, but clients are always encouraged
not to overlook this important area, or cut corners in their budget.
With screen-printing and inkjet techniques, your 'stock' can be
plastics, fabric, wood or metal, and come in a variety of shapes
and sizes.
