A picture can indeed be worth a thousand words. Carefully chosen, the right image can pitch an instant but often subtle message that may otherwise have taken many paragraphs to convey.
From a project-management point of view, at their simplest, images are everything that isn't covered by text. Just about every project we undertake here at the The Drawing Board starts with the two basic building blocks of text and images.
We often receive text from clients, and for other projects, we research and write copy (see more in the WORDS section). We also get sent images, logos, clip art, etc. Oftentimes, the quality of these (at the risk of upsetting some potential clients) is questionable at best.
Never fear. There are always solutions to these pesky problems. The ideal option is a photo-shoot, tailored to the job in hand. Not expensive either; very often cheaper than buying in stock photography with the added bonus of total control over the results, and no licensing issues. Stock imagery has its place too. And if photos are not cutting the mustard, then bespoke illustrations are the order of the day.
